Concept & Order
Who is behind Select Living?
Three friends from the Ruhr region who value design, quality and individuality. We focus on craftsmanship and durable solutions instead of disposable goods.
Which products do you offer to transform the IKEA PAX into a custom built-in wardrobe?
To individually complement your IKEA PAX and give it the look of a true built-in wardrobe, we offer three specialized product categories. The right solution for you depends on your existing PAX height and the respective ceiling height:
1. Standard PAX Heights: Custom-fit fronts and additions for the classic cabinet dimensions.
2. Ceiling-high doors, side panels, and wall fillers made to measure: Ideal for extending the cabinet seamlessly to the ceiling and elegantly closing gaps to the wall.
3. Custom-made top cabinet: The perfect extension to create additional storage space above the PAX cabinet and make optimal use of the space up to the ceiling.
Can I also come by in person and look at the products?
Yes, we have a showroom in Düsseldorf at Hohe Str. 47, 40213 Düsseldorf. If you would like to visit, please contact us in advance to schedule an appointment.
Are there color samples?
Yes, color samples are always available and free – you only pay for shipping. This way, you can calmly choose the right finish and color.
What is the difference to the IKEA PAX planner?
The IKEA PAX planner helps you with the basic configuration. We go further: Select Living transforms it into a tailor-made solution with style, color, and individuality.
Is my PAX compatible?
Yes – all parts fit the IKEA PAX system exactly, whether new or an older model.

Assistance
- Measure: Measure the room height at as many points as possible (e.g., at each cabinet edge). Note down the lowest value.
- Safety Clearance: Deduct a safety clearance. We recommend 2 cm, but you can choose the deduction individually (e.g., 1 cm for very precise measurements). You are responsible for the final dimensions.
- Order: The result is your order dimension for the shop or our configurator.
Crucial: Your order dimension is the final installation height of all additions (max. 277 cm). Additionally, we deduct 1 cm from your chosen dimension during production so that your door does not scrape the floor at the bottom. However, you do not need to account for this in your calculations.
Tip: Pay attention to lamps or smoke detectors in the opening area! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
Production & Individuality
What are the possible dimensions for the top cabinet?
For the top cabinet, a minimum height of 30 cm and a maximum height of 130 cm are possible. This solution is particularly well-suited for ceiling heights above 280 cm, but can also be used flexibly in rooms with lower ceilings.
When are floor-to-ceiling doors the right choice?
Ceiling-high doors are the right choice for you if your ceiling height is up to approx. 277 cm and you prefer a continuous look without a visible top cabinet, so that the cabinet finishes flush with the ceiling like a custom-made wall.
How tall can the custom doors be manufactured?
Floor-to-ceiling doors, exterior panels, and custom wall panels can be individually manufactured with an extended length of up to 41 cm beyond the actual PAX frame.
For a 201 cm high PAX, heights from 201 cm up to a maximum of 241 cm are possible, while for the 236 cm high PAX, you can choose a continuous height from 236 cm up to a maximum of 277 cm to perfectly fill the space to the ceiling.
To determine your final desired height, you should always measure the exact ceiling height and subtract a safety clearance of 2 cm.
Do you also offer glass doors?
No, we do not carry glass doors in our product range. We do not offer them.
Do you also offer mirrored doors?
No, we do not manufacture mirrored doors. This option is not available from us.
Do you also offer solutions for slanted ceilings?
Yes, we also manufacture doors for sloped ceilings. It is important that 75 cm or 100 cm wide carcasses are not used in the sloped area, as each door must be planned individually. To ensure smooth opening, the hinge must always be mounted on the side opposite the slope. Otherwise, since the door is cut at an angle at the top, it would catch or get stuck on the slope when opening. So, if your sloped ceiling descends to the left, the hinge must be on the right – and vice versa.
What do the recesses for the skirting boards mean?
You can order our exterior sides or wall panels directly with suitable cutouts for your baseboards. For exterior sides, we make them 3 cm deeper to accommodate the corresponding cut-out at the bottom. For wall panels, the cutout is simply milled directly into the width of the panel you choose. For measurements, please send us an email with your order number to hey@select-living.de
What happens if I have stucco on the ceiling?
If you have stucco on the ceiling, we can plan the fronts so that they simply end just before the stucco. This ensures that the doors can still be opened easily without colliding with the decorative elements on the ceiling.
Which solution do you offer for the 75 cm wide cabinet body?
For the 75 cm wide PAX cabinet, we have developed special 37.5 cm wide doors. This allows for a symmetrical division of the doors in the middle, even with this size.
Which color goes with classic IKEA matte white in your opinion?
The matching color to IKEA standard matte white is Aurora Pure Cloud.
Can I mount an add-on unit on a PAX with sliding doors?
Unfortunately, this is not possible. Since the rail system for the sliding doors is mounted above the PAX frame, it blocks the space for a top cabinet.
What is the standard plinth cutout size for outer sides and wall panels?
If you select the plinth cut-out option, the standard milling dimension will be 65 x 20 mm.
Do you also offer Besta fronts in your Aurora colors or in custom RAL colors?
Yes, we offer Besta fronts in both our "Pure" and "Signature" collections, as well as in any other desired RAL color. Since this is a special option, please send your individual request for a quote directly by email to marco@select-living.de.
Can grip holes be prepared directly?
Yes, we can prepare the handle drillings for you. The cost for this is 15 Euros per handle/door. To ensure we have the exact drilling distances, you would need to send us one of your handles beforehand.
Can I order just PAX fronts?
Yes. Our fronts fit perfectly over your existing IKEA PAX cabinet. We offer special PAX doors that fit flush with the cabinet—both in the standard heights of 201 cm and 236 cm, and custom-made to fit ceiling height. This creates the look of a true built-in wardrobe, with no gaps or visible transitions.
How long does it take to produce your custom PAX pieces?
Our current delivery time is approximately 4–6 weeks, including production in our carpentry workshop.

Do I have to build everything myself?
Yes – however, assembly is simple and well-thought-out. You will receive detailed assembly instructions and videos. If you prefer to outsource the assembly, you can find suitable fitters via TaskRabbit or MyHammer.
Assembly instructions and videos can be found under the tab: Assembly Aid
How do I connect the PAX add-on unit to the IKEA PAX wardrobe frame?
The top cabinet is simply placed on top of the PAX frame and secured with four screws.
How are the wall panels mounted?
Wall panels are installed using a plug-in system with dowels and a mounting rail.
Installation process:
1. A mounting rail is screwed to the PAX.
2. The wall panel is plugged onto this rail.
3. The panel is securely seated but can be removed again if necessary.
Advantage:
The wall panel can be removed in an emergency, e.g., to access a fuse box, a power outlet, or cables behind it.
The solution is clean, flexible, and reversible.
How are the exterior sides mounted?
You attach the exterior part to the PAX frame, 21 mm from the front edge, so that it is flush with the fronts, and then screw it together from the inside of the cabinet with a total of 8 screws to form a stable unit.
How are the doors installed?
The doors are mounted to the PAX carcass as usual, but you absolutely must use the hinges we ordered. First, you mount these hinges to the carcass, then hang the doors and adjust them accordingly. After your order, you will receive detailed assembly instructions; you can also find all instructions online at https://select-living.de/pages/aufbau.
Are your PAX doors compatible with the original IKEA hinges?
No, our doors are not compatible with standard IKEA hinges. The main reason for this is the weight: while a conventional IKEA door weighs about 3–5 kg, our fronts weigh 17 kg and upwards. Since IKEA hinges are not designed for this load, we cannot guarantee long-term stability and a perfect fit with them. To ensure our quality standards, we offer special premium hinges that are perfectly matched to the weight of our doors.
Is it possible to install a drawer at the very bottom of a PAX frame when using Select Living doors?
Yes, that is possible. Select Living uses a special, flat hinge for this purpose, which ensures the functionality of the bottom drawer. However, instead of the regular 4-hinge set, a special "3+1" set must be used, consisting of three standard Blum hinges and this one special hinge.
Is the appropriate mounting hardware already included when ordering exterior parts or wall panels?
Yes, if you order exterior panels or wall claddings from us, the appropriate screws for installation are always included directly in the delivery.
Where will the hinges be attached later?
The exact position of the hinges varies depending on the IKEA cabinet you are using and the type of door chosen. Here are the specific hole positions for the hinges (counted from the respective edge):
For the 236 cm PAX cabinet:
Custom door: from bottom Hinge 1 (Hole 3/4) & Hinge 2 (Hole 32/33); from top Hinge 3 (Hole 16/17) & Hinge 4 (Hole 2/3).
Standard door: from bottom Hinge 1 (Hole 3/4) & Hinge 2 (Hole 32/33); from top Hinge 3 (Hole 30/31) & Hinge 4 (Hole 2/3).
For the 201 cm PAX cabinet:
Custom door: from bottom Hinge 1 (Hole 3/4) & Hinge 2 (Hole 32/33); from top Hinge 3 (Hole 10/11) & Hinge 4 (Hole 2/3).
Standard door: from bottom Hinge 1 (Hole 3/4) & Hinge 2 (Hole 32/33); from top Hinge 3 (Hole 2/3).
Returns & Security
Can I return doors, exterior panels, or wall covers?
Since all our additions, such as doors, side panels, and wall panels, are custom-made for you, they are excluded from exchange and return.
